Define BibliographyHave you ever struggled to define bibliography? When I say 'bibliography', I am not only referring to the traditional literature section at your local library. I am also referring to what happens when someone tries to write a short paper and then explain in detail what they used to do, and why. The simplest example is when a student writes an essay and has trouble using the dictionary or encyclopedias.In the case of this, students usually do not have a long background in literature, so the students who had trouble earlier will have trouble again. I use the example because it helps me to clearly illustrate the point.When I try to define bibliography, I am really trying to explain in my paper that what I mean by bibliography is what I meant when I said I was writing for a class. Now, if a student is struggling to write, and has no background in literature, she can still find a title to explain in the bibliography. For example, if you are writing a paper for an Englis h class, and you are trying to explain to the class why you used such words, it is better to use a book title to explain to them why you used that word.When you use the bibliography in a paper, it does not mean that you will start with bibliography and go through the life of literature using all the words in it. Rather, the reason you use bibliography is to give the students an idea about the life of literature and the art of writing.So the definition of bibliography is important but even more important is how you use bibliography. If you are writing an essay about literature, don't be afraid to use bibliography. But when you are writing a paper for school, it is best to avoid using bibliography.For example, if you were to be writing a paper for your history class, you should probably avoid using bibliography. I know that may sound harsh, but if you have never used a bibliography before, and you try to explain it to your history class, you will probably be misunderstood. Instead, us e examples and anecdotes, to help the students understand what a bibliography is and how to use it.To summarize, the first thing to remember is that the bibliography is not just a reference book that is used by writers. It is a tool used by people when they are trying to explain their lives to others. So, in the context of writing for a class, a bibliography is a very helpful way to explain the life of literature, but in a different context, it may not be necessary.
